District 128's Class of 2010 Sets New Record High on ACT

Community High School District 128 Superintendent Prentiss Lea is proud to announce that the District’s ACT scores have risen for the 5th consecutive year.  The graduating Class of 2010, comprised of 761 students, earned an average composite score of 25.0. For the past five years, the district has seen a steady increase from 24.1 to 25.0.  The state average composite ACT score was 20.7. The test is scored nationally on a range from 1 to 36.

Both District 128 schools, Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School, continue to show significant improvement in student achievement on this important measure of academic success.  Libertyville High School’s composite score climbed to 25.3, the highest in its history.  Vernon Hills High School’s average composite score was 24.7.  Class of 2009 composite scores for LHS and VHHS were 24.9 and 24.7 respectively.

“We are extremely proud of our continued success on this assessment,” said Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Deborah Larson. “We believe that the curriculum initiatives that we have undertaken have a positive impact on student achievement.  Additionally, our teachers continue to use best practices in instruction to challenge students with rigorous learning opportunities.”

District 128 Board Endorses Expectations for Electronic Communication with Students

Community High School District 128 recognizes that we live in a society that is highly focused on the use of digital communication tools.  While most students and some staff use these tools--such as Facebook, email, and text messaging--because they are dynamic and mobile, and their messages quickly reach their audiences, the District also knows that, as with any emerging technology, there is some caution that should be exercised when using these new media for staff-to-student communication.  The District further recognizes the educational benefits of communicating with students beyond the classroom to enrich teaching and learning.  In order to protect students, staff and the District,  the District developed a document entitled, "Community High School District 128  Expectations for Communicating Electronically with Students."  In this document, the District hopes to raise awareness of the acceptable ways for staff to use digital communication tools when communicating with students, and raise awareness of the positive and negative outcomes that may result when using these tools.

D128 Community Embraces PowerSchool for 2010

Parents and students now have a new way to access information about real-time grades, attendance, and class assignments from any Internet-accessible computer.  The newly enhanced parent portal of PowerSchool gives parents and students all this access and more, including the ability to view teachers’ comments, send teachers an email, have parents receive automated emails about grades or attendance, view attendance history, check on missing homework and view information for more than one student from a single login.

Check out all these new features by logging into [ powerschool.d128.org ].  Links to PowerSchool can also be found in the right column of either school’s home page.  If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Google Android OS mobile device, you’ll be able to view comprehensive student information including grades, schedules and attendance, tailored to the small screen.  Simply type powerschool.d128.org into the device’s Internet browser and add the link to your home screen for one-touch access to the login page.

Login information for the PowerSchool Portal was mailed to families in the August mailing which included schedules and a registration confirmation.  Any parent or student who has problems logging on to this new system should email their respective school for account information.  For Libertyville High School, email Nancy.Hornung@d128.org; For Vernon Hills High School, email Tamara.Fisher@d128.org.
