Peyton Newman now holds the title of Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen. She will compete in July in Orlando for the title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen. The Miss America system is one of the largest scholarship providers in the world. As Gretchen Carlson, chairwoman of Miss America, recently stated in her Good Morning America interview, "We are no longer a pageant, we are a competition."
Peyton participated in an interview with five judges on topics ranging from our current political climate to personal information regarding her life experiences. The panel of judges were distinguished musicians, TV personalities, military personnel, and college professors from around the country. She competed in evening wear with a question on stage, talent (singing Bennie and the Jets), and lifestyle and fitness. She received the high score in lifestyle and fitness of the 21 girls competing from all over the state. Contestants also must have a platform in which they perform community service. Peyton has established her own community service organization, My Voice, and has contributed more than 200 hours of service per year for the last 5 years, receiving the Presidential Award for the service.
