Chromebook tabs are shaky/jittering
- What's going on?
This "ghost touches" issue is happening on many Asus Chromebooks, the model distributed during the 2025-2026 school year. It is triggered by putting the Chromebook to sleep (usually by closing it). - How do I fix it?
Restart the Chromebook. One way to do this is by holding the refresh key while pressing the power button briefly. The power button is the second button from the front on the right side of the Chromebook. See diagrams in the Asus Chromebook tip sheet. - When will it be fixed permanently?
We expect a firmware update from Asus in May 2026.

Chromebook Policies
- Expectations
- Do students get to keep their Chromebooks when they graduate?
- What do I do with my Chromebook if I move out of the district before graduating?
Expectations
All students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school fully charged every day.
See "Responsibility for the Chromebook" in the student handbook for the complete list of student and family responsibilities.
Do students get to keep their Chromebooks when they graduate?
Upon graduation, a student in good standing will be granted ownership of their assigned Chromebook, and all district control and management of the device will be removed. The Chromebook will be wiped during this process. More information can be found on the "Chromebook Instructions for Seniors" page.
Until that point, the Chromebook is owned solely by District 128. See "Ownership of the Student Chromebook" in the student handbook.

Monitoring and managing your child's Chromebook activity
Can I monitor which sites my student visits on their chromebook?
Yes, you can monitor your student's internet activity with Securly Home. Please see Securly's Parent Portal F.A.Q. or contact the I.T. department for more information.
Can the school ban a website or app? Can parents/guardians?
Yes, District 128 staff have the ability to block websites & applications from running on school-owned devices during the school day. More information about district internet filtering can be found in the “Internet Filtering” section of the student handbook.
For blocking websites on Chromebooks at home, parents and guardians can use the Securly Parent Portal.
