PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXEMPTION POLICY

(District 128 Board Policy 6:310)

If a student is enrolled in PE at the beginning of the semester, but are PE exempt and not attending class, they will be able to count that class as one of the five classes required for IHSA eligibility. 
  
Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 may request exemption from Physical Education for any one of the following reasons:

  • The student is participating in interscholastic athletics sanctioned by the IHSA (as certified by the appropriate district personnel), is enrolled in five academic courses, and is in good standing in the physical welfare program.
  • The student provides written evidence from an institution of higher education that a specific course not included in existing state or local school minimum graduation standards is required for admission.  (School district personnel must verify that the student’s present and proposed schedule will not permit completion of the needed course).
  • In order to satisfy graduation requirements, a senior who is unable to take the maximum number of classes due to repeating a failed Physical Ed class.
