International Exchange Students

District 128 aims to be a welcoming destination for international exchange students. Our students and our entire school community benefit from learning alongside students from around the world.

District 128 partners with AFS Intercultural Programs to welcome exchange students into our schools. To ensure a smooth transition and high-quality experience, the program is managed under the following guidelines:

  • Administration: The Director of Student Services and Assistant Principals for Student Services coordinate directly with AFS for all placements.
  • Enrollment Limits: The district accepts a maximum of two students per year—one at Libertyville High School (LHS) and one at Vernon Hills High School (VHHS).
  • Deadline: All arrangements and the application process through AFS must be finalized by May 1 of the preceding school year.

Rules and procedures for exchange students are governed by Board of Education policies, particularly Board Policy 7:50.
