What is Dual Credit?
- Dual credit allows a student to earn high school and college credit. There may be some applications, paperwork, and/or fees associated with acquiring the credit. See here for dual credit offerings.
- This information is from College of Lake County (CLC) includes Dual Credit information and frequently asked questions.
- Dual credit courses carry weighted grade point averages (i.e. an A is worth 5.0 on the GPA scale), which is the same as Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
- Articulated credit is not the same as dual credit. Articulated Credit is more localized in that students can complete courses for CLC only, but they do not receive college credit nor does it affect their GPA. A student would have to enroll in CLC in order to have a transcript generated that will list the course with a "T" (Transfer)
Does enrolling in a dual credit course mean I will automatically earn college credit?
Earning college credit requires:
- Meeting prerequisites for the course (see below)
- Completing an application to CLC
- Enrolling in the college course
You will receive information on how to complete the application and enrollment process after enrolling in the course. You will receive an email detailing instructions and our dual credit coordinator from CLC will drop into your class early in the session to help you complete those items.

What if I don’t do well in the dual credit course?
- It is important you do your best in your dual credit course as you are establishing a college transcript that will contain the course, grade and credits earned. The College of Lake County offers resources to help dual credit students including tutoring assistance and accommodations for eligible students with disabilities to help you in your studies.
- Once the dual credit class is completed, the course and credits are added to your high school and college transcript. If you want to withdraw from the college course, contact your high school Dual Credit instructor before the course ends (CLC).
How will these credits transfer to my prospective colleges?
- Resources like Transferology are available to see how credit may transfer to specific colleges and universities. Consult with your prospective schools directly to confirm what credit is accepted.
- In December 2025, D128 checked our dual credit courses in Transferology for the top 45 postsecondary institutions to which students applied in the past school years. You can see the results of how Transferology shared dual credit courses transferring there here.
- The spreadsheet is not meant to guarantee transferability. As always, contact the postsecondary institution directly to learn how credits transfer.
- You can order a transcript from College of Lake County through your student portal or through Parchment directly and have your transcript sent to the college or university you plan to attend to have it evaluated (CLC).
- This CLC Transcript Document notes how the credit will be a part of the permanent record and transcript at CLC. Additionally, this document notes the impact & timeline of dropping a dual credit course at CLC
