GRADUATION LETTER FROM
DR. KOULENTES

Dear Parents/Guardians of the Graduation Candidates of the Class of 2019:

The administration, faculty, and staff of Libertyville High School are very proud to invite you to the commencement ceremony honoring the Class of 2019 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates on Thursday, May 23, 2019.  The processional will begin at 7:00 PM and last approximately 1½ hours.

Graduation at Libertyville High School is a formal and dignified ceremony.  We attempt to make it an experience with traditions that have meaning for all graduates at LHS.  We would ask that you, as parents/guardians who have long awaited this day, help us in impressing upon your senior the honor of this occasion so that his/her behavior will be in accord with the importance of the ceremony.

Participation in the ceremony is not a requirement to receive a Libertyville High School diploma.  If graduates choose not to participate in the ceremony, we will respect their choice and their diploma will be mailed following the May 23rd graduation ceremony.  Please call Sandra Kruckman at (847) 327-7002 to confirm if your student will not be attending the ceremony.

Please share the following expectations at Sears Centre Arena with your family:

  1. The Libertyville High School administration asks that the audience and graduates refrain from loud, boisterous behavior, shouts, and whistles so that every family can hear their graduate’s name being announced.

  2. Graduates will be wearing a cap, gown, tassel, and medallion for the formal graduation ceremony.  The medallion will be distributed to each graduate at the Sears Centre. Young men’s attire should include a shirt/tie, slacks (no jeans), and hard soled shoes (no flip flops or gym shoes).  Young ladies should wear a dress, skirt/blouse or slacks/blouse, and dress shoes (no flip flops or gym shoes). Students who arrive in inappropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in graduation.  (Sunglasses and decorated caps are not permitted.)

  3. Professional photographers are under contract to take pictures for Libertyville High School.  Individual photographs by the stage will not be permitted. (GradImages, per contract, agrees to protect the students’ right to privacy by not selling or providing the names and addresses of our candidates for graduation to any other company for any purpose.  The information provided allows GradImages to accurately track graduates as they cross the stage and to provide each graduate the opportunity to purchase pictures from the ceremony.) In addition, the ceremony will be recorded and available on DVD or digital download.  See the flyer in this packet for additional details and visit the Web Store to reserve your copy.

  4. Each raduate will receive 8 tickets to the graduation ceremony.  Please have your graduate stop by or call the main office only if you need more than 8 tickets by May 10th.   Tickets will be distributed at graduation rehearsal (attendance is required) on Monday, May 20 at 7:30 AM in the main gym.  Graduates do not need a ticket for the ceremony.  Only students participating in graduation will receive tickets for their families and/or friends.

  5. Graduates should arrive at the Sears Centre Arena no later than 5:45 PM on Thursday, May 23rd.  Graduates and parents may park in Blue Lot A, B and C or Red Lot D through G.  Graduates should enter through Door #11 (closest parking is Blue Lot B, C).  Door #1 is the main entrance where parents will enter (see enclosed maps).  There are two important and positive changes with our venue for the upcoming graduation.  Prior to entering the building, all graduates will pass through metal detectors.  The main entrance for parents will open at 6:00 PM and, with the enhanced security, all bags will be checked by Sears Centre staff.  Sears Centre recommends that guests leave any unnecessary bags at home. Also important to note is the ample handicapped seating available at the Sears Centre which is easily accessed without the use of stairs.

  6. Students do not need to return their caps or gowns after the ceremony.  Students will exit the Sears Centre immediately following the ceremony through Door #4.  Families should arrange to meet with their graduates outside of the building after the ceremony in Area 2 (see enclosed map).  Diplomas will be mailed to students who have completed the graduation requirements of Libertyville High School the week following graduation.

  7. Please remind students that violations of any school rule recognized as gross misconduct, as per the LHS handbook, may result in a loss of a student’s privilege to take part in the graduation ceremony.  This includes acts of school vandalism or criminal trespassing to school property. Graduates who behave inappropriately during the ceremony may be escorted out and prevented from taking part in the ceremony.

We encourage you to visit the LHS homepage at www.d128.org/lhs for additional senior information.  If you have any questions regarding graduation, please call Sandra Kruckman (847-327-7002) or Kelly DeBruler (847-327-7003).  Your support is appreciated and we look forward to seeing you at the ceremony on May 23rd.  We are proud of our seniors and anticipate a dignified and enjoyable commencement program.

Congratulations, Class of 2019!

Sincerely,
Dr. Thomas Koulentes
