The new LHS pool is presently awaiting final Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) plan document review and approval, and pending this review and approval, we anticipate that the District will have all necessary approvals to begin use of the new pool in the near future. In anticipation of the final approval, the new pool was deep cleaned over the weekend and is ready for use. As soon as the District receives IDPH final approval, LHS students may begin to use the facility. A grand opening ribbon-cutting and open house will be planned for a later date.

LHS Pool Opening Delayed
As the result of a few final construction completion tasks, then required state inspections prior to occupancy and use, D128 anticipates the new LHS Pool will be available for use by Monday, Aug. 19.
In the interim, LHS is working with VHHS to accommodate Girls Swimming and Diving practices during the final completion and inspection period. We look forward to announcing the final completion of the LHS pool and having the exciting new facility in use by our students and school community.

Village of Libertyville Approves Plan for Additional Parking at LHS
After extensive collaboration with the Village of Libertyville and adjacent neighbors, Community High School District 128 is pleased to announce that the District’s plan for 69 additional parking spaces at Libertyville High School was unanimously approved by the Village Board at its Aug. 28 meeting. The estimated final completion date for the project is early Spring 2019.
In addition to constructing the 69 new parking spaces on campus, the approved plan also includes fencing and landscaping to provide adequate screening between the school and neighbors on the west side of the campus. Superintendent Prentiss Lea, Associate Superintendent Briant Kelly, and Board of Education President Pat Groody presented and provided overview, details and commentary to the Village Board regarding the plan.
The D128 Board and Superintendent Lea thank the Village of Libertyville Board, neighboring residents, and district administrators Mark Koopman, Briant Kelly, Dan Stanley, Mary Todoric, and district architect Mike Henderson and engineer Louis Wehrspann for the many hours dedicated to researching and discussing the best way to make the additional parking work in the best interest of all concerned. The District looks forward to being able to safely provide additional on-campus parking as well visually-appealing landscaping and fencing that will preserve many trees and green space and also provide privacy for the neighbors living adjacent to the new parking area.

The construction of the new LHS pool requires the removal of a number of trees. The Village of Libertyville has a strict code on tree removal and replacement. Approximately four years ago when D128 first started considering replacing the current LHS pool, D128 started working through Village officials to ensure that our new pool site development plan incorporated and met all Village requirements, including tree removal and replacement.
To that end, four years ago, D128 hired an arborist to conduct an extensive survey of all trees on the LHS campus. The survey gave us an inventory of the species, location, and condition of all trees on the LHS campus. The survey was updated last spring to provide us with current information needed for the site development process.
As part of the site development plan process with the Village of Libertyville, we worked with a licensed landscape architect who also designed the landscaping at the Brainerd site. The proposed design was reviewed by Village officials and at a number of public meetings of the Appearance Committee and Plan Commission. These groups requested changes to one variety of replacement tree and the addition of 16 additional trees. D128 is replacing 94 trees and also planting 88 additional shrubs and 273 green plantings as part of the site development plan. The final landscaping plan was approved by the Village Board as part of the site development permit process.

Thanks to LHS students, parents, staff and community for your patience and cooperation during our preparation for construction of the new LHS pool! The following is important information regarding the start of the construction process.
All competitive bids for the new LHS Pool have been completed and awarded by the D128 Board, and various required permitting is in process. Initial site development work will begin on October 17, and will include approved tree removal and beginning earth work. Per approved tree removal on the new LHS Pool site, a number of live and dead trees will be removed to allow for pool construction. However, the district will replace the removed trees with 94 new trees, 88 shrubs and 273 green plantings in the parking lot rain garden. Tree removal is expected to be completed by October 20. As site development begins, a partial construction fence will be erected on October 17, and following tree removal, a full construction fence with a gate will be erected for the remainder of the project.
LHS students should continue to avoid the construction area. During the duration of the construction project, students walking to school from neighborhoods to the south and west of LHS must use the sidewalk on the south side of 176 to Dawes and cross at the light to enter campus.
Thanks again to the LHS community for your continued patience and support during the construction period.
