October 16th Student DARING Day

October 16th Student DARING Day

On Wednesday, October 16th, LHS has designed a day with special attendance schedules and unique learning opportunities for our students.  The purpose of this day is two-fold: First, LHS will provide time for our juniors to take the PSAT-NMSQT assessment. Second, this day will enable our freshmen, sophomores, and seniors to live our District 128 DARING Mission in a manner that is not possible during a typical school day.  Below is a summary of each grade level’s program & schedule for the day. For more information click here to see a copy of the letter that went home.

SENIORS:  WORK ON POST HIGH SCHOOL PLANS:

Seniors at LHS are not required to attend school on this day.  Instead, all seniors are encouraged to use this day to prepare for post-secondary options and pursuits, including college applications, college essays and  job applications. In addition, members of our LHS English Department will be available in the MASH (room 1106) between 8:45 a.m. -12:30 p.m. to assist students on a drop-in basis with editing or revising college essays.

JUNIORS:  PSAT-NMSQT Test:

Juniors taking the PSAT-NMSQT will attend school from 8:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Juniors who elected to not take the PSAT-NMSQT do not attend school on October 16th. Juniors should report to their assigned testing room at the regular school start time, 8:45am.  Testing room lists with names will be posted in multiple locations, including student LSTs. All students should bring a calculator, school ID, and two #2 pencils to school that day.

FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES:

All 9th and 10th graders will attend school from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students will participate in two extended learning blocks.  One block will engage students in learning about career options. During a second block, all 9th and 10th grade students will participate in the Art Impact Project, an interactive visual art activity designed to nurture student self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills.  When students arrive at school, each should report to his/her assigned classrooms for these learning activities. Room lists will be posted around the building and in LSTs during the week of October 7th. All Freshmen and Sophomores should bring their charged Chromebooks and something to write with.

Bus Transportation:
Morning Bus Routes:  Buses will run at regular start times & locations.
Afternoon Bus Routes: Buses will leave LHS at approximately 12:40 p.m., after the day’s activities have concluded.

Tech Campus Students:
All Tech Campus students are excused from attending Tech Campus on this day.
