D128 Parents/Guardians and Parents:

D128 Board Elections

We thank all 10 D128 citizens who ran for the Board. A vibrant democracy is dependent on citizen engagement and involvement, and we are fortunate to serve and live in communities with both.

With that said, on behalf of the D128 family, we warmly welcome Don Carmichael back to the Board, and Cara Benjamin, Kara Drumke and Sonal Kulkarni to the Board. I know that Don, Cara, Kara and Sonal will join returning Board members Jim Batson, Lisa Hessel and Casey Rooney to build on the historic excellence of D128 Board leadership and service. CONGRATULATIONS!

We offer sincere appreciation and gratitude to Pat Groody (16 years), Karin Lundstedt (12 years) and Kevin Huber (4 years) for their dedicated leadership and service on the Board, to the district and to our communities. Pat served as Board President and Chaired the Collective Bargaining Committee for many years; Karin served as Board Vice-President, Board Secretary, D128 SEDOL Representative, and as D128 Foundation Board Representative for many years; and Kevin Chaired the Facilities and Finance Committee and served on the Collective Bargaining Committee throughout his time on the Board. Their many contributions as Board leaders and members have truly made a significant, measured difference in our continued growth, achievement and success. From the entire D128 family, THANK YOU!

2020-2021 School Year

As the D128 Board and I have articulated since January, the intention of the district is to open the 2021-2022 school year normally. All district and campus planning for next year has been and continues to be aligned with that intention. More recently, near completion of staff vaccinations and soon-to-come opening of vaccinations to students 16 years of age and older provide an even stronger health and safety foundation to open school normally.

To facilitate staff, parent and student awareness and advanced planning for the 2021-2022 school year, you will receive more detailed information from the district next week regarding the 2021-2022 school year.

As a qualifier, if COVID-19 conditions radically deteriorate prior to school opening, and the Governor, IDPH and/or ISBE issue orders and guidance regarding school opening and attendance, the Board retains all decision-making options to comply with those orders and guidance.

Short of that, it is our intention, and we are actively planning to open school normally for the 2021-2022 school year.

Finally, we are very fortunate and excited to have Dr. Denise Herrmann lead the district into the future as the new D128 Superintendent. Dr. Herrmann has been actively engaged in transition activities with us, and we will continue to work closely with her in transition, including but not limited to, opening the 2021-2022 school year. Dr. Herrmann officially starts her new role on July 1, 2021.
