Accounting I is a comprehensive program designed to help students meet two broad objectives: 1) preparation for post-secondary education in the business field and, 2) preparation for employment. This course helps students understand basic accounting principles and procedures that are applied to business transactions.  Students will record transactions and prepare basic reports such as balance sheets and income statements.

Advanced Accounting Honors - Course No.: 5510

Advanced Accounting Honors uses an integrated  college approach to teach real world accounting. Students will have the opportunity to take a year end qualifying exam and an online course to potentially earn credits.  Students will first learn how to business plan and evaluate for operating, financing, and investing decisions. Students will develop the skills to use accounting systems for gathering and providing data to internal and external decision makers. Students will be required to job shadow an accounting professional throughout the year. This year-long course covers all topics covered in the first two accounting courses in university business schools. With this course, students majoring in any area of business will be fully prepared to excel immediately in their required accounting courses.

Business Leadership provides an excellent background for students pursuing a business major in college. It is the study of the structure and practices of business organizations operating under our free enterprise economy. Topics include international business, entrepreneurship, total quality management, organizational teamwork, human resources, leadership styles, labor-management negotiations, and multicultural diversity.  Students will be using technology applications and the Internet to explore business trends in management.

Business Mathematics  is the application of mathematical concepts to practical business situations and problems. Students will learn to create formulas and utilize mathematical and spreadsheet skills using Excel 2010. The goals include the development and improvement of specific business and math skills that will enable students to function effectively as intelligent consumers in the marketplace and in a career environment. Units will include payroll, banking, budgeting, recordkeeping, sales, taxes, personnel records, purchasing and distribution.

Entrepreneurship - Course No.: 5529F, 5530S

Entrepreneurship will provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to own and operate their own small businesses.  Students will examine the environment of small business ownership, the procedures and skills necessary to open a small business, and the policies and practices of a successful small business operation. Entrepreneurship will emphasize a hands-on approach to small business ownership. Local entrepreneurs will be guest speakers and each student will have the benefit of receiving advice from a local entrepreneur. Each student will brainstorm ideas for a business through ideation and then they will learn how to write a “lean start-up” business plan for a business that matches their interests.

Introduction to Business introduces students to the fundamentals of business practices and procedures.  Students gain knowledge of business and economics that is helpful in the pursuit of a future degree or career in business, as well as in everyday life.  Students explore all functional areas of business including the basics of investing, accounting, management, marketing, product development, manufacturing and distribution, and human resources. Students also explore different leadership styles and interpersonal skills that are important to success in the business world.  Internet research, guest speakers, and group activities are also utilized throughout the course to provide students with up-to-date information on current business trends.

iOS App Development Beginning - Course No: 5563F

iOS App Development course provides students an opportunity to build and deploy an iOS application from end to end using a specific template and framework. Students will learn the basics of sequential and object ­oriented programming, basic data structures, and a solid understanding of how an iOS app is constructed. They will learn how iOS applications are designed and developed, and use those skills to create complete, working applications. In addition to the programming skills, students will learn how to employ Agile Project Management and work in an environment similar to that of a traditional development shop, thus improving their ability to work well under pressure, improving their time management skills, and improving their ability to prioritize and delegate work.

With business being the most popular major in American colleges, why not get ahead by enrolling in Marketing? This course focuses on topics such as promotion, pricing, purchasing, visual merchandising, market research, product planning, and advertising.  Teaching methods include teamwork, Internet exploration, computer applications, guest speakers, and class discussion.  Each class of students will work with a local business to create, market, and present a product they create. Students will also create advertising campaigns using print and television media.

Sports and Entertainment Marketing - Course No.: 5560S

Sports and Entertainment Marketing explores marketing’s impact in sports and entertainment. The relationship that exists between celebrities, sports, and business will be explored. Topics will include the management of sports and entertainment as a product, collegiate and professional licensing endorsement, agents, public relations, legal aspects, and the future of sports and entertainment relating to business. Students will use computer simulations, cooperative learning, in-class activities, and student projects as learning tools.

Yearbook (Continuum) - Course No.: 8730

GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: Full Year CREDIT: 1.0 OTHER: Extended Study Option

The Yearbook (Continuum) staff members are responsible for the publication of the school yearbook. Students do extensive interviewing and research to produce journalistically sound copy, captions and headlines. Using a web-based publishing program, eDesign, students arrange their work into attractive page designs, all adding to the development of a student-created yearbook. Students also have the chance to develop their photography skills through photographing student events during the school day. Lastly, the yearbook staff members will gain experience with business skills as they manage yearbook sales, ad sales, and business sponsorships. Students who apply for and are appointed to editorial positions at the discretion of the Faculty Advisor will receive Honors credit. Additionally, this class can be taken multiple times as an extended study option.
