Thank you to Kenzie, Ashley, and Bethany (also Cayla, Jenna, Emily, and Julieta) for welcoming next year's new Starbook Book Club members at 8th Grade Orientation! We had a very inviting table in a great location. 12 students signed up as interested in Book Club, so we will email them at the start of school next year to draft them into our group.
- Of the 12 interested students, 7 are boys. We talked about how to keep boys as members. How can we make it easier for all students to speak in our large, loud, amazing group?
- Maybe toss a ball around. When you're holding the ball, you can speak.
- Maybe use the foam dice to prompt answering questions.
- Can a book be good even if bad things happen to the characters?
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
- Yona: "It is a tragic book!"
- Emily: "I loved that book!"
- Ema: "All of the books I like have something terrible that happens to the main character,. I think it makes the story more interesting."
