Ray Albin

At its April 29 regular meeting, the District 128 Board of Education will vote to approve hiring Ray Albin as the next principal of Libertyville High School. Albin will begin his new position on July 1, 2024, filling the position after current principal Thomas Koulentes moves into his new role as D128 assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.

Albin has spent his entire career as an educator at LHS. He joined D128 in 1999 as a science teacher, became the LHS school improvement coordinator in 2006, and then the associate principal for teaching and learning in 2011. In addition to his work as an administrator and classroom teacher, he has coached track, football, and wrestling at LHS. Albin was named Illinois Principal Association Lake Region Principal of the Year.

Albin holds a Doctorate Degree in Curriculum Leadership from Aurora University, Master’s Degrees in Curriculum and Administration from Loyola University, Chicago, and a Bachelor’s Degree in biology from DePauw University.

“We are ecstatic to have Dr. Albin serve as the next LHS Principal,” said District 128 Superintendent Denise Herrmann. “His dedication to school improvement, teacher development, and the growth and achievement of ALL students is unwavering. He is a true Wildcat, and we are confident he will continue the legacy of excellence that Dr. Koulentes and his team have established.

District 128 Board of Education President Lisa Hessel added, “We are excited to have an amazing internal candidate like Dr. Albin assume the principal position. He has a demonstrated commitment to students, staff and community, and is a long-standing D128 team member. We know he will lead LHS to new heights.”
