Dear D128 Parents/Guardians and Staff:

I am looking forward to August 12th, our first full day of in-person learning for all D128 students in nearly 16 months. This is a milestone we have been eagerly awaiting - we have a lot to celebrate.

However, on Aug. 2, 2021, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) updated their COVID-19 School Guidance and FAQs to reflect the recently updated recommendations for schools from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Lake County Health Department (LCHD) also announced on July 31, 2021, that Lake County is experiencing ”substantial” community transmission per the CDC data tracker. And, at this afternoon’s media conference, Governor Pritzker announced that all Illinois pre-k - 12 schools must follow indoor masking regardless of vaccination status.

Given these updates, Community High School District 128 will require everyone to wear masks indoors at Libertyville High School, Vernon Hills High School and the D128 District Office regardless of vaccination status effective immediately. Masks are required for all students, staff and visitors to the buildings for any reason, as well as during Behind the Wheel instruction in Drivers Education and on buses to/from school and school events. Masks will be encouraged but not required when outdoors at school. Students and staff members should continue to complete the daily symptom checklist screener prior to leaving for school each day.

Thank you for your continued efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we plan to safely open our schools for the 2021-22 school year.
