Dr. Jeffrey Brown

Director of Choirs

Dr. Jeffrey D. Brown is in his nineteenth year at Libertyville High School as Director of Choirs. Dr. Brown teaches all four curricular choirs, the Concert Choir, Bel Canto, Concert Chorale & Chorale, and four co-curricular vocal ensembles, the Master Singers, Acabellas, Treblemakers, and Cleftomaniacs. There are over 175 students involved in choir at LHS.

During his tenure at LHS, Dr. Brown has designed and implemented many curricular improvements to the choral program including the creation of the newest course, Concert Chorale. He has led performance tours throughout the United States and Europe to such destinations as Disney World, Hawaii, England, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy,  Spain, and France providing LHS students the opportunity to perform in some of the world’s most significant cultural and historic venues. A performance at the Vatican in Rome was a highlight of the recent trip to Italy in spring of 2011.  Further honors include the Libertyville High School Concert Choir being selected to perform at the Illinois Music Educator’s Association All-State Conference in both 2004 and 2008.

Dr. Brown is an active member of ILMEA, ACDA, and MENC and has been guest conductor for annual choral festivals at Lake Zurich and Antioch, IL.  He also served as guest conductor for the District 7 IMEA Jr. High Festival in 2009.
In addition to his responsibilities as Director of Choirs at Libertyville High School, Dr. Brown is Vocal Director for the Fall Musical.  He has vocally directed 16 musicals, and his work in Pippin, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Starlight Express was selected to perform at the state level by the Illinois High School Theater Festival in 2005, 2011, and 2016.

His educational background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2002) in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University completed under the direction of Dr. Charles K. Smith and Dr. Jonathan Reed.   He received a Masters (1995) and Bachelors (1993) in choral conducting and music education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.

Dr. Brown has directed church choirs in Lansing, MI, Boston, MA, and Nacogdoches, TX, and currently directs the adult choir at the United Methodist Church of Libertyville, IL. He lives in Gurnee, IL with his wife Eryn, dance teacher at LHS, and his four children, Alex, Owen, Hank, and Loie.
